Qualification and Credentials
Michaela Schwandner graduated with a Master's degree in Education and specializations in Counselling and Clinical Psychology from the University of Bielefeld, Germany. Having worked 17 years in the field of Children’s Mental Health gave her a solid foundation for assisting people in crisis. She has worked with families struggling with behavioural and mental health issues, inter-generational trauma, addictions and the challenges of parenting. During the most recent years she has mainly worked as a counsellor for Individuals, Couples and Families for a Family Services Agency. It is crucial to her to keep her knowledge and her technical skills up-to-date. Therefore she regularly attends trainings and workshops on topics related to family/couples therapy, depression, anxiety and trauma.
Michaela is passionate about her work and can't imagine anything more rewarding than witnessing the transformation of peoples' lives towards more fulfillment, balance and empowerment.
Education and Affiliations
Aside from her Master's degree Michaela has completed a 3-year training in Systemic Family Therapy and a training in Quality Assurance and Best Practices for Youth Welfare/Children's Mental Health organizations. In the more recent years she completed trainings in Danger Assessment for domestic violence situations and the basic training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprossessing), an effective treatment for people having experienced trauma like childhood abuse and neglect, violence, traumatic losses or accidents.
Michaela is registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She also is a member of the Ontario Association for Consultants, Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Psychometrists (www.oaccpp.ca) and a member of the EMDR International organization EMDRIA (www.emdria.org).
